A 12-year-old, who is 27 weeks pregnant, was released on Monday evening from state-run Asha Sadan and allowed to go home. Her mother will be approaching the Supreme Court on Tuesday to file a PIL seeking her daughter's abortion. The minor had been shifted to Aasha Sadan after her family filed a case against her father's helper for raping her.

mid-day reported about the minor's pregnancy in the August 11 report, '12 years old, 27 weeks pregnant'. Sneha Mukherjee, one of the lawyers representing the girl in the SC, said they would file the PIL for the abortion on Tuesday. "We are awaiting some essential documents. As soon as we receive them, we will file the petition," she said.
"The family was distressed, as the girl was made to stay away from them. Despite repeated requests, the CWC wasn't allowing her to go back to her parents. We are happy now that she has finally been allowed to [go home]," said a family member.

The girl underwent a physical examination at JJ Hospital on Monday. She may also undergo a psychological evaluation later. "All necessary evaluations of the minor have been done. Further steps will be followed as instructed by CWC," said Dr TP Lahane, dean of JJ Hospital.
The minor's pregnancy came to light last week, when her mother approached a doctor regarding the unnatural growth of the 12-year-old's stomach.
