Amid the row over Shah Rukh Khan's remarks on "extreme intolerance", the Mumbai Police has beefed up his security.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Satyanarayan Chaudhary said, "We have increased the security cover of the actor, who was already provided with police security a few days ago."
BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya had triggered a controversy on Tuesday when he tweeted that Shah Rukh's "soul" resides in Pakistan though he lives in India.
His remarks came a day after the 50-year-old actor said there is "extreme intolerance" in the country. On Wednesday, controversial BJP MP Yogi Adityanath compared Shah Rukh to Pakistani terrorist Hafiz Saeed, and suggested he should move to Pakistan.
The BJP strongly disapproved of the comments, saying there cannot be any comparison between a law-abiding Indian citizen and a Pakistani terrorist, more so Khan, who is loved and respected.
BJP's ally Shiv Sena had also come out in support of the actor, saying the superstar should not be targeted only because he is Muslim.
