This happened after MiD DAY reported about the Patils' ouster from their residence by loan recovery agents
The family, which was thrown out of their house by recovery agents of a financial company, has now been given their home back, after a compromise between the two parties.
Dilip Rao got his home in Andheri back after NGO Sahayak helped the two parties reach a settlement.
The Patils' house in Sher-e-Bahadur Society in Andheri (East) was sealed by recovery agents on February 2 because Dilip Patil, the family patriarch, had defaulted on the payment of a business loan of Rs 44 lakh.
Following the articles published in MiD DAY ('Debt-ridden family made homeless', February 3, 'Homeless family on hunger strike', February 4, and 'Legal help from NGO to Andheri homeless family', February 6), an NGO came to succour the family.
The organisation, Sahayak, sent several notices to the authorities concerned, law enforcing agencies, and financial company to resolve the matter.
Settlement
Dr LB Tiwari, president and head of the legal cell at Sahayak, met the company authorities and discussed the matter. He showed them all the documents related to the loan Patil had taken.
Following that, an agreement was reached. The company made Patil the offer of a one-time settlement, which he accepted. It opened the seized flat yesterday and the family was finally rehabilitated.
"I am grateful to MiD DAY and Sahayak for helping me out," said Patil.u00a0 "We appreciate MiD DAY for bringing the matter to public notice.
We came to know about the victim and approached them after they published the articles," Dr Tiwari said.
