Mumbai: The Governor of Maharashtra Ch Vidyasagar Rao unveiled a bust-size statue of the architect of modern Mumbai Jagannath (Nana) Sunkersett at Wadala here today on the occasion of his 150th death anniversary.
Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray, who was also present on the occasion, paid tributes to Nana Sunkersett and demanded naming of the Mumbai Central Railway station after him.
Referring to the philanthropic work of Nana Sunkersett, the Governor wondered why the city of Mumbai, which is home to a large number of rich, cannot have donors like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.
He appealed to corporates to go beyond the mandate of corporate social responsibility (CSR) rules and create social assets for the community.
