Navi Mumbai RTO started the process of accepting online applications for permits to drive auto rickshaws in the satellite city; last date is February 15
The Navi Mumbai Regional Transport office (RTO) opened its window to apply for an auto rickshaw driver's permit from January 27. Applications are only being accepted online and the state government has appointed mahaonline.gov.in as the agency for the process.
The applicant should be a citizen of India, above 20 years of age and possess a valid driving licence. He should have resided for more than 15 years in Maharashtra; he also needs to speak Marathi. The minimum educational qualification is a Std X pass certificate. No person who is in government service or has a criminal record for the past one year will be entertained.
While applications will be accepted till February 15, around 8,188 people had already sent in their requests for the issuance of the permits, of which only 2,687 will be the lucky ones. The results will be through a lottery system and the draw will be conducted on February 26. After this, the list would be handed over to Sanjay Daygude, deputy RTO officer at Navi Mumbai RTO. It will then be published on February 27.
"The online system will help us keep the process transparent, and also avoid illegal agents. Online verification will access the applicant's details and there will be no fraud such as submitting fake documents. Even the drivers do not have to wait in long queues," explained Daygude.
