Mumbai: RPI(A) chief Ramdas Athawale today expressed the need to launch an initiative for social equality rather than social harmony to mark the 125th birth anniversary year of dalit icon Babasaheb Ambedkar.
"There is a need to launch an initiate for social equality rather than social harmony. I will soon write to Prime Minister to convey our feelings," Athawale said.
He was addressing a meeting of the party executive here.
"There is a lot of pressure from party activists on me for (getting) five per cent share in power in government as well as in corporations. I will meet BJP president Amit Shah and ask him to fulfil the promises given to us in writing prior to elections," he added.
Athawale said resentment against the BJP was growing among RPI workers as the saffron party has "failed" to keep its promise. "But still we don't have any plan to withdraw the support (to government)," he added. Athawale said the saffron combine will benefit only if the BJP and Shiv Sena stay together.
"Recently, both the parties contested local bodies elections separately and suffered a major setback. So, BJP and Sena should contest the upcoming elections along with other alliance partners," he added.
