Newly appointed Commissioner of Mumbai Police, D Sivanandan visited Siddhivinayak temple this morning, to seek divine intervention for what he hopes will be a good stint at the top of Mumbai's police brigade. The Intelligence chief will officially take charge today at noon.

Sivanandan replaces Hasan Gafoor who in a surprising move was transferred to the post of director general of Maharashtra state police housing and welfare corporation on Saturday. Even though Gafoor claims that his transfer is 'routine', this move is being perceived as a consequence of critique on Gafoor's role during the 26/11 attacks.

Moreover Gafoor has been indicted by the Ram Pradhan Committee that is likely to submit its report on Monday.
Sivanandan served as chief of the crime branch from 1998 to 2000. He has also served as Thane police commissioner
