Award-winning flautist got his marriage registered on June 26

Flute maestro Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia (71) surprised officials at the marriage registrar's office at the in MHADA building in Bandra (E) recently by dropping in to register his 51-year-old marriage to wife Anuradha under the Special Marriage Act.

Marriage registrar V P Surwase confirmed to MiD DAY that on June 26, Chaurasia got his marriage registered with them. Chaurasia was accompanied by marriage agent Hemant More.



"Panditji was asked to pay a nominal fee of Rs 250, inclusive of all charges," said Surwase. The marriage wasu00a0u00a0 registered by Surwase's assistant A Chowdhary and Chaurasia was issued a copy of his marriage certificate the same day.

Explaining his involvement in the registration, More said that a week before the event, he received a call from Chaurasia's lawyers asking about the Special Marriage Act.

"The marriage needed to be registered because Panditji's son needed the marriage certificate for some official purpose," revealed More.

However, when contacted, Chaurasia refused to divulge any details. "I do not want any media intervention in my personal life. I do not want to talk on the subject," he said.
