Surinder Kapoor, father of Anil, Boney and Sanjay Kapoor, passed away last evening following a massive heart attack.
Kapoor was well known as a filmmaker to reckon with in the '70s and '80s. He produced films like Ponga Pandit (1975), Hum Paanch (1980) and Woh Saat Din (1983). His last film as a producer was No Entry in 2005, along with his son Anil Kapoor.
Kapoor was also the president of the Film and Television Producers Guild of India from 1995 to 2001.
He started his film career as a secretary to film actress Gita Bali and then went on to become an assistant director with the film Mughal e Azam. Kapoor was 88.
His death comes close on the heels of a series of deaths related to the Hindi film industry, the latest being that of ace photographer Gautam Rajadhyaksha.
