Qasab gets new lawyer

Qasab's trial that began on Wednesday at the fortified Arthur Road Jail and drama unfolded at the scene when special prosecution judge dismissed his previously appointed lawyer Anjali Waghmare for professional misconduct.

On Thursday morning special judge M L Tahiliyani had called for the president of the Bar Association as well as private lawyers to come forward to offer their services. At last six names were shortlisted u2013 Randhir Kale, Subhash Gaikwad, A A Walawalkar, Prabhanjay Dave, Pravin Singhal and Abbas Kazmi, of which Kazmi was finally chosen to be Qasab's lawyer.

Kazmi has previously represented over 20 of the accused from the 1993 bomb blasts case including Dawood aide, Ejaz Pathan.

The court has also ordered the government to pay a reasonable sum to Kazmi for services rendered in the case.
