Junior Mahajan finds several suitors despite his not-so-clean credentials
Junior Mahajan finds several suitors despite his not-so-clean credentialsKya aap mujhse shaadi karengi?" asks Rahul Mahajan, coyly, in the promos for NDTV Imagine's follow-up to Rakhi ka Swayamwar Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge. As it turns out, many women seem to be saying 'Yes'. In 25 days, the channel claims to have received 16,755 entries from wannabe Mrs Mahajans. Nikhil Madhok, VP marketing and communications, says that there are still five days to go before they close applications. The highest number has poured in from Delhi with Mumbai as a close second.
According to the channel, this is 40 per cent more than what Sawant received. Last season, 16 Mr Rakhi Sawant-hopefuls were taken on the show. This year, the final number may change.
Madhok agrees that Rahul does have a negative image (alleged wife beating case, messy divorce, and alleged drug abuse). But, he points out, "He's young, good looking, extremely rich, and has made a name for himself, not to mention his fantastic political background." Which is probably what several of the doctors, teachers and even TV artistes have taken into account while applying. Madhok argues that the show's format requires a celebrity really looking to get married and who doesn't mind doing so on television. "Rahul fits the bill on all counts."
