Following intelligence reports of a terror threat to Mumbai and the likelihood of panic among commuters during high-tide days, the railway police have increased security at all stations.

A K Sharma, GRP commissioner, said, "We have increased our strength by 15 per cent till July 25 as a precautionary measure.

Thorough: Security officers have been asked to carry out checks at all entry and exit points at railway stations.

Large crowds may take shelter at stations in case there is heavy flooding because of high tide and rains."

Said a railway police officer, "Railways are a soft target. With a looming terror threat, we don't want to take any chances.

If there is a terror attack on any of the high-tide days, it will result in the death of a lot of innocent lives.

We are doing everything to avert such a scenario." He added, "People may also panic and it could result in a stampede."

The officers have been asked to carry out thorough checks at all entry and exit points and keep a watch for suspicious activities and objects.

They have also been asked to maintain law and order and control tempers in case there is disruption
of service.

No Chances

An Intelligence Bureau report warned of a terror threat at railway stations on high-tide days. Security was beefed up at CST, Churchgate and Andheri stations on July 10 after an earlier terror warning.

Twenty RPF personnel and dogs squads were deployed at all stations. Serial trains blasts in July 2006 claimed 188 lives.
