Real estate brokers wary of foreign tenants, post Headley

Brokers across the city will now be more cautious before house-hunting for a foreign national. The change came soon after news broke that US national David Headley Coleman, who has been linked to the 26/11 terror attacks, approached real estate broker Sunny Singh for a flat in South Mumbai. "I don't want to comment on the issue anymore. I'm already under stress," says Singh.

Sangeet Kumar, au00a0 broker from Andheri says, "It is our job to verify the credentials of the person before we allow him to hire an apartment." Vibhuti Jain, who operates across the city, says, "We brokers always do our job by submitting photocopies of the foreign nationals' passports to the local police stations. From here on, it's the job of the police to verify their backgrounds."u00a0 "We have stopped looking for homes for people who meet us at bars and pubs," says a broker on condition of anonymity.
