Robbers broke into a house and decamped with gold worth Rs 7 lakh along with some silver and Rs 25,000 in cash.
The incident happened at Sachin Yewale's house in Seeta Sadan building in Mumbai Central during the wee hours yesterday.
Sachin, who has two flats on the second floor of the building, realised that one of his flats had been robbed when he got a call from his neighbour Pravin Patil, requesting him to open Patil's front door as he had been locked in.
"When I reached his flat, I noticed that the lock of my other flat, which is next to Pravin's, was broken. I immediately called out to the neighbours, but was shocked to notice all their front doors locked," said Sachin.
Around 10 houses on that floor had been locked from outside so that the neighbours could not stop the robbery at Sachin's place.
Sachin's wife, Mandagani, said, "Last night I was awake till 2 am but didn't hear any noise that could have
alerted us.
I've lost around 3 kg gold, most of which was gifted during the naming ceremony of my two-month-old son." A case of theft has been registered at Kalachowki police station.
