A Santacruz family celebrating a wedding was robbed of cash and jewellery worth more than Rs 8 lakh early today morning.

The victim Omprakash Singh (48), a hotel owner, and his family were asleep in their Prabhat Colony home when the incident took place.

A relative, Pradeep Singh (36), told MiD DAY, "Since it was my sister's wedding, we had kept the clothes, jewellery, gifts and money in the room. At around 4 am, my aunt Pushpadevi (43) went to the room where the jewellery was kept and found the dogs sleeping. Normally, they would've gotten up when they heard her coming. When she put the lights on, she saw that someone had ravaged the room and taken off with the goods."

Pushpadevi found all the people in the room unconscious. They had been sedated.

The police said it was too early to comment on the case. One policeman said, "We found the bags that the thief or thieves took from the house near a public toilet close to the victims'residence. They left the clothes behind, but took away all the cash and jewellery."
