The Opposition Shiv Sena-BJP on Tuesday proposed the name of BJP leader Eknath Khadse as the new Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra assembly.
The Opposition submitted a joint letter, signed by chief whip of BJP Legislature Party Girish Bapat and Sena leader in the lower House Subhash Desai, to protem Speaker Ganpatrao Deshmukh, BJP general secretary and MLC Vinod Tawde said.
The Leader of Opposition post will be held by BJP as it got 46 seats, two more than Shiv Sena (44), in the just concluded assembly election. Shiv Sena and BJP had contested 169 and 119 seats respectively.
Leader of Opposition in the last assembly Ramdas Kadam of Shiv Sena was defeated in the elections.
