The BMC elections might be 12 months away, but the Shiv Sena, which currently has majority control over BMC, doesn't want to take risks. Especially when Raj Thackeray, a former Sena leader, represents the opposition. Sena Bhawan has issued a diktat which has reached all shakhas in Mumbai. The diktat commands that shakha pramukh will hold at least one meeting every month at all shakhas until the elections as well as organise recreational activities for residents of the area.

Mahadev Devale, former mayor and also senior Shiv Sena leader, confirmed this new rule. He said, "Every shakha has been asked to follow this rule. All the shakhas need to take this seriously. They have been asked to organise functions ranging from drawing competitions to singing. They have been asked to reach out to people and connect with them. We need to increase the communication between the shakha and the common man."

Last month, Uddhav Thackeray was on a surprise visit to the shakhas to keep a tight vigil on the performance of the shakha pramukhs. These new developments have been keeping shaka pramukhs on their toes.

"We always followed this practice of staying in touch with the aam aadmi. However, a few shakhas have begun slacking off in the last few years. But now, this diktat will bring everyone under the scanner. We have been organising events and will continue doing so," said Bhau Kulgaonkar, Vibhag Pramukh and senior Sena leader.
