Dharavi cops arrest housebreakers during customary patrol; valuables worth Rs 7 lakh recovered from their hideout

Dharavi police officials struck gold when they arrested two serial housebreakers and recovered ornaments, gadgets and cash worth Rs 7 lakh during a regular patrol of the area.

Cops arrested Nilesh Kale (32) and Amir Shinde (26) on June 23, while they were on their rounds and found housebreaking tools on them and some jewellery. During questioning, the duo revealed that they were serial housebreakers and visited the city often to commit the thefts.

An investigating officer said, "Kale and Shinde had come to the city in April and rented an apartment in Virar where they would store all the stolen goods.

The duo targeted houses in Shahunagar, Parel, Parle and Dharavi."
Valuables like TVs, DVD players, home theatre systems, phones, jewellery and cash were recovered from the house in Virar costing Rs 7 lakh.

Authorities also revealed that the duo had previous criminal records and used to commit robberies in Pune too.

"We have arrested the duo under Sections 454, 457 and 380 (house trespassing, house-breaking by night in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment, theft) of the IPC.

We are now investigating if Kale and Shinde had any links to a gang. There are around 20-25 cases of break-ins registered against them in Pune and in Mumbai," said PSI Irfan Sheikh of the Dharavi police station.

Booty recovered
Valuables like TVs, DVD players, home theatre systems, mobile phones, jewellery and cash were recovered from the house in Virar costing approximately Rs 7 lakh.
