MNS party workers set up 30,000 chairs at Shivaji Park to counter wet ground

As Shivaji Park gears up for its first rally in the upcoming state assembly elections today, MNS party workers are praying that the rain gods don't play spoilsport with the rally.

MNS chief Raj Thackeray, along with the party's candidates, will be addressing the rally in the evening.

With the ground still slushy from last week's showers, the MNS has been forced to assemble over 30,000 chairs to enable people to sit comfortably at the rally.

Kissa Kursi Ka: In a first of its kind move, the MNS has arranged chairs for people attending the rally at Shivaji Park today.

Raju Savla, contractor arranging the MNS rally at Shivaji Park said, "Ideally no rallies have chairs, but since the ground is still slushy it was decided to put chairs so that people are at ease."

However, the Met department's forecast for the day is to expect a spell of rain and thundershowers in the city and suburbs.

Rained out

Last week, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's rally was cancelled after heavy rains left the Shivaji Park venue waterlogged. BJP president Rajnath Singh's rally in Jalgaon too was washed out.

Over 100 officers of the Kerala State Police will be on duty to guard the rally at Shivaji Park. It was reported earlier that police officers from Bihar would be responsible for the security at the rally.
