Mumbai mayor Snehal Ambekar has suspended six Congress corporators of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in a general body meeting on Monday

Mumbai mayor Snehal Ambekar has suspended six Congress corporators of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in a general body meeting on Monday.

Action was taken against the corporators due to the ruckus they created over the uneven distribution of corporator funds, which is also a part of the civic budget 2015. The corporators who had to bear the brunt of the Congress corporators' ill behaviour include Sheetal Mhatre, Waqarunissa Ansari, Nayana Sheth, Parul Mehta, Dr Ajanta Yadav and Anita Yadav.

The incident occurred during a general body meeting on Monday. A proposal to reshuffle certain provisions of the civic budget was cleared in the standing committee meeting. The proposal included distribution of Rs 400 crore, from which 227 corporators of BMC are likely to receive Rs 1 crore each. However, from from the surplus amount of Rs 173 crore, Shiv Sena received a larger piece of the pie, amounting to Rs 120 crore, BJP received an amount of Rs 32 crore while Congress had to settle to Rs 7 crore, followed by MNS and NCP, which claimed Rs 5 crore each and Samajwadi Party got Rs 4 crore.

Furious at the allegedly unfair distribution of funds, corporators didn't let Shiv Sena corporator and standing committee chairman Yashodhar Phanse to complete the budget speech. They allegedly threw paper balls at Ambekar and shouted slogans against Shiv Sena. The rebel Congress partymen also stood on their benches, after which Ambekar announced a one-day suspension for the culprits.
