Gautam Pandey, father of the accused said, "The police have not informed us about the suicide attempt."


The family claimed that they learned about Deepak's condition from an acquaintance, who visited the hospital. Dharmendra Pandey, Deepak's uncle said, "Weu00a0 learned about the incident last evening. The police have not allowed us meet or even talk to Deepak."

According to Deepak's family members, he attempted suicide as he was being tortured by the police. "The police is scared that if we meet Deepak, he will tell about the torture," added the father.

Bhandalkar, the officer investigating the case said that Deepak will be allowed to speak to his family today after he is discharged from hospital.

On Sunday, the Samata Nagar police arrested Deepak along with three youths for allegedly raping a girl in January. The matter came to light after the girl overdosed on sleeping pills and her family lodged a police complaint on Saturday.
