This monsoon, the traffic police, the BMC's Disaster Management Cell (DMC) and the Railways have come together to ensure that citizens do not venture into trouble spots on a rainy day.


This monsoon, the traffic police, the BMC's Disaster Management Cell (DMC) and the Railways have come together to ensure that citizens do not venture into trouble spots on a rainy day.

The railways are coordinating with all agencies, including BEST, police force, fire brigade and traffic police, said Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Srinivas Mudgerikar.

This co-ordination will mean that during an emergency, the traffic police will pass on the necessary information about waterlogged areas and trouble spots to the DMC and the Railways.

The railways will then warn passengers through their public announcement system at all railway stations.

Confirmed Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sanjay Barve, "In case of an emergency, we will make announcements at railway stations to warn the people, as we are co-coordinating with all agencies, including the railways."

The traffic police will also send warning messages through the Variable Messaging System.

The traffic control room will display information on traffic congestion, bottlenecks and diversions on the electronic messaging boards, which are installed at strategic locations across the city.

The information will also be dispatched in the form of SMS alerts to those who subscribe to the traffic police alerts.
