With mass casualties pouring in 140 at last count BMC asks hospitals to replenish the blood banks and other resources

The BMC's Disaster Management Cell alerted various agencies to stock up on resources to control the aftermath of the blasts.

Officials immediately informed all the government and private hospitals in the nearby locations to remain prepared for mass casualties.

"We have, first and foremost, alerted blood banks in hospitals to start functioning and have spread the message in all the 24 wards in the city.

We have informed the BEST department to keep the services running for the public," said an official from the cell.

The civic authority rushed four ambulances to the spot at Dadar, two to Opera House and two to Zaveri Bazar. In all, 21 ambulances were rushed to all sensitive spots in the city, by government and private hospitals.

Traffic
After the serial blasts ripped through the heart of the city, the traffic police department got into action.

Speaking to MiD DAY, DCP (Traffic) Nandkumar Chougule said, "Soon after the news of serial blasts, SMSes were sent to Mumbaikars, asking them to get to their homes as soon as possible and not come out on the roads in order to keep the city free of traffic jams."

Traffic police also cordoned off the roads where the blasts occurred. At various places, diversions were done. Motorists were asked not to take the MK Road. At various places, police had done nakabandi, which caused congestion.

The traffic on the Western and Eastern Express Highways was normal.
The vehicular movement on Bandra-Worli Sea Link was normal.

Casualties
As of 9 pm yesterday, the following casualties were reported:
Harkisandas Hospital: 32 injured and 3 dead
GT Hospital: 18 injured and 3 deadu00a0
St George Hospital: 14 injured and 3 deadu00a0
JJ Hospital: 9 injured and 1 deadu00a0
KEM Hospital: 4 injuredu00a0
Suruja Hospital: 2 injuredu00a0
Nair Hospital: 1 injured and 1 deadu00a0
Saifee Hospital: 40 injured and 20 dead
Total: 140 injured and 29 dead
