Strand bookstore owner passes away

T N Shanbag, founder of the city's legendary Strand bookstore, passed away on Friday at his residence at the Vasundhara building on Peddar Road (next to Cadbury's House) at 1.30 pm.

Shanbag, a Padmashree award recipient had been suffering from pneumonia-related complications for a while.

The Strand bookstall shone like a beacon on the city's literary scene.

The store completed 60 years recently. Shanbag leaves behind a rich legacy. No doubt, Shanbag's spirit will live on amidst the bookshelves of the Strand bookstore.
