Barely a week before Valentine's Day celebrations, students and staff at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Chembur initiated a series of protests to voice their dissent and condemnation against the recent assaults on women at a Mangalore pub.

"This is an issue of gender bias and these acts are a way of reasserting control over the mobility and sexuality of women," a protestor said, airing her grievance.
She added that the issue is about political opportunism, it is about moral policing of women, it is about censorship, it is about sexual harassment, it is about a patriarchal symphony that strikes a high note by openly assaulting women in a public space.
Students plan to follow up with more such protests till March 8, International Women's Day.
