Pinky Mishra (name changed) glugged a bottle of anti-lice solution and was found unconscious by her family. While the family misguided the police saying it was an error on her part, the police are investigating the matter and believe it to be a suicide attempt.
The incident occurred at 9 am on Sunday, when Mishra was told to fill cans with water that is supplied by the municipality outisde her home in a transit camp at Bandra Reclamation. It slipped her mind leading to a dressing down from her uncle.
A furious Mishra ran into her home. Moments later, when her father Fayyaz Khan (37), entered the house, he saw her lying unconscious on the floor with an anti-lice medicine bottle in hand.
Khan and his wife Surayya (35) rushed their daughter to Bandra's Bhabha Hospital.
When Sunday MiD DAY visited the girl's residence, a neighbour said, "The girl was told to fill water from the government tap, and when she didn't she was scolded in front of everyone. That's when she decided to drink poison in a fit of fury."
Khan claimed, "My daughter drank the medicine by mistake. No one is responsible for the incident."
"When she was brought into emergency, she was serious and is still unconscious. She has been shifted to the female ward," said a doctor from Bhabha.
Police sub-inspector Suresh Patil of Bandra Police Station said, "The family claims the girl didn't know she was drinking anti-lice medicine. We are waiting for her to regain consciousness to find out the truth."
