The army court on Saturday found former military secretary guilty on three counts

The Indian Army had on Friday completed the court martial proceedings against former military secretary, Lt Gen (retd) Avadesh Prakash in connection with a scam involving transfer of 71 acres of land adjacent to Sukna military station in West Bengal.

The army in January punished another senior officer and former 33 Corps Commander Lt Gen P K Rath in the same case. Rath's punishment included loss of seniority and loss of pension. Both Prakash and Rath were indicted by a court of inquiry, constituted in 2010. The scam dates back to 2008 when the alleged move to transfer the land in Siliguri district of West Bengal to a private educational trust was revealed, leading to disciplinary proceedings.

The then army chief General Deepak Kapoor allegedly wanted to let off Prakash with just administrative action. However, Defence Minister A K Antony intervened and ordered his court-martial.
