BMC proposes cutting of 100 trees to facilitate renovation of swimming pool in Shivaji Park
While swimming can only be good for your health, the 100 trees being chopped to facilitate the beautification of the Mahatma Gandhi Swimming Pool at Shivaji Park may actually harm the health of Mumbaikars.u00a0
The BMC is renovating the queen size swimming pool, next to the mayor's bungalow, and proposes to cut some trees in the vicinity that supposedly come in the way of the pool's redevelopment.
Avinash Kubal, member of the BMC's Tree Authority, said, "There is a proposal to cut 111 trees. However, citizens have raised objections, so permission has not been granted as yet."
A week back, notices that announced that the trees would be cut were put at the pool premises. "A few people have opposed it for personal benefit. These trees will be replanted," said a BMC official, even though the notices, which announced the cutting of trees, does not mention that the trees would be replanted.
