In the wake of the recent H1N1 influenza, city clubs display notices advising members to refrain from using its facilities if they have flu symptoms After schools, colleges and multiplexes, the city's top-notch clubs are now taking precautionary measures to avoid the spread of the H1N1 virus among its members.
Clubs have put up notices advising members to refrain from entering the swimming pool if they are suffering from any flu symptoms like cough, cold and fever. The Radio Club has requested their guests and members having dysentery to restrict themselves from venturing into the club swimming pool, eateries and play areas, a fact which was confirmed by the club's president Mohan Mirchandani.u00a0u00a0
"Since the news of two swine flu deaths have been reported we are taking all precautionary measures to avoid any untoward situation," said Nandkumar Nair, manager, coordination of Goregaon Sports Club (GSC). The GSC has three swimming pools that members are advised against using if they display flu symptoms. The club seems to be worried after the state government issued an advisory asking people to avoid crowded places. The management is concerned that most of their members, who are either corporates or belong to affluent families, may have a recent history of overseas travel.
An official from a club in Juhu said, "We have no choice but to appeal to them to not come to the club if they have flu symptoms as we cannot screen each member."
Khar Gymkhana management is taking another set of precautionary measures. "We are in the process of buying a few antiseptic liquid disinfectants as a safety measure," said manager Sanjay Sawant.
Few others like Bombay Gymkhana have been following this rule for sometime now. "If members have any allergies or skin diseases, we request them to not use the swimming pools," said an official.
