Brutalised girl needs surgery; alleged rapist is absconding

An 18-year-old boy took advantage of an empty home last night and raped his four-and-half-year-old neighbour.

The boy, Bindu, a resident of Kherwadi in Bandra, lured Bina Sharma (name changed to protect identity) to his house under the pretext of mopping up some spilled water on the floor.

The incident took place at around 10 pm. Bindu was alone at home, as his father, a waiter, was at work and his mother had gone to Shirdi.

Shashi Sharma (name changed), the victim's father and a pani puri seller, said, "I was at my stall when my elder son came running and informed me about the incident.

It's very shocking to realise a neighbourhood boy could do something so monstrous to my daughter."

Describe the incident, Sharma added, "My daughter came crying to her mother. She had blood all over her clothes. Even her ears were bleeding.

Her condition was so bad that my wife started crying. We rushed her to V N Desai municipal hospital in Santacruz."

Bina has suffered severe injuries. She'll be operated upon today.

Shocked at the incident, one neighbour, said, "Though Bindu was very mischievous, we never expected that he would do such a thing."

A case of threatening and rape has been registered against Bindu at the Nehru Nagar police station.

An on-duty official from the police station told MiD DAY, "As the girl is in a state of shock, we have taken her mother's statement. We are searching for Bindu, who fled after committing the crime."

Bindu's father too remained unreachable.

He added that they'd take the victim's statement as soon as her condition improved.
