Thane: Two men were killed after a palm tree fell on them during the thundershowers with strong winds earlier this week in Thane. According to a report in The Times of India, the police said that the deceased Aman Liaqat Shaikh (19) and RD Jaiswal (30) were taking shelter under the 50-feet palm tree that snapped into two during the gusty winds and the thundershower Tuesday night.
Shaikh, a Mumbra resident, was on his way home when he stood that the spot with Jaiswal, a mobile accessories vendor near an MSRTC bus stop in Thane (West) seeking shelter from the sudden rains when they got crushed under the tree, the hawkers at the spot were quoting saying.

They also said that they were standing somewhere else before rushing to the spot of the crash. It was also mentioned that Jaiswal used to keep his stock under the tree that fell on him.

The report mentioned that they were pulled out the two from under the tree and were rushed to the civil hospital, were Shaikh was pronounced dead on arrival. Jaiswal was later shifted to a private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. Shaikh is survived by his parents and Jaiswal by his wife and two children. His parents had come to visit him from Uttar Pradesh recently, the report added.
The police have registered a case of accidental death in this incident.
