Two undertrial prisoners who were undergoing treatment at the Thane mental hospital escaped from the facility, police said on Thursday


Thane: Two undertrial prisoners who were undergoing treatment at the Thane mental hospital escaped from the facility, police said on Thursday.

The accused were identified as Sukhram Jyotiram Bhilla (35), hailing from Jalgaon district, and Kashinath Pujara (38) from Raigarh distict, police said.

The accused were arrested in two disparate murder cases, and were lodged in Thane mental hospital for treatment as per court directives, Police Inspector (PI) A D Kshirsagar of Wagle Estate police station said. The duo, who was lodged in a criminal ward, broke the grills of the windows and gates and absconded from the confinement yesterday, he said.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of IPC, he said, adding efforts are under way to nab the accused.
