Discovery was made a day after the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) announced it would have its official FB page and Twitter account by November-end, on Tuesday
After waking up from its deep slumber and embracing social media to reach out to the Mumbaikars, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking on Tuesday announced that it would be starting a Facebook page and opening a Twitter account by November-end.
BEST officials said they are now trying to trace the IP addresses of the administrators of the unofficial FB pages and the Twitter handle operator
"We will be starting our own page on the two social networking sites," said Jagdish Patil, General Manager, BEST Undertaking, on Tuesday. However, the Undertaking was stumped upon discovering the existence of seven unofficial BEST pages on Facebook as well as a Twitter account (with 11 followers).
"None of these are official accounts. We have already registered a complaint at the GM's office. An internal inquiry has been initiated into the matter," said a senior BEST official. Officials are now trying to trace the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of the administrators of these pages and the Twitter handle operator, who they believe could be BEST employees.
They also expressed concerns over commuters uploading pictures of mishaps involving BEST buses or registering grievances on these unofficial sites, as none would reach the Undertaking. Sources from the Undertaking claimed that the fate of the official Facebook page now depends on the details mentioned in the inquiry report.
