The boyfriend of a widow was arrested by the Bangur Nagar police yesterday for allegedly raping her 14-year-old daughter. The matter came to light when the teenager, who complained of a stomachache to her friend, went to a doctor and found out that she was two months pregnant. They then filed a complaint with the Bangur Nagar police.
According to the police, Sudarshan Shetty (40), an interior decorator, has been allegedly raping Savita Sonawane (name changed to protect identity) for over six months. But she did not complain to her mother as Shetty threatened to kill both of them if she did so.
However, Savita's mother said she was clueless. "I had no idea that my boyfriend was raping my daughter," said Savita's mother.u00a0
After the arrest. Shetty was sent for the medical check up along with the girl to Nagpada police hospital yesterday.
Danaji Nalawade, inspector (crime), Bangur Nagar police station, said, "We have arrested Shetty and will produce him in court today."
Shetty has been living with Savita's mother at her Malad residence since the death of her husband in 2002.
