The Mulund police have allegedly refused to register an FIR for the theft of a bicycle and instead asked the complainant to bring them the CCTV camera footage of the crime. Yogesh Mudiyar, who works at a shop on Zaver road at Mulund, had purchased the cycle on instalment for travelling to work.
On November 11, Mudiyar had parked his cycle on the roadside near the shop he works at, but when he returned to head home, it was missing. He checked the entire area, but did not find his cycle, and rushed to Mulund police station to file a complaint. However, the officer on duty told him that they don't register FIRs for stolen bicycles and asked him to leave, Mudiyar said.
Later, Mudiyar contacted a local activist who again took him to the police station. The activist also contacted two police officers and one constable, Rahul Pawar, told him that they will âfind the cycle, but we need CCTV camera footage of the area.' Mudiyar had to check all the CCTV cameras in the area where his bicycle was stolen'.
Mudiyar searched and collected footage from many CCTV cameras and submitted them to the police station. However, the police still did not take any action, he alleged.

Mudiyar told mid-day, "I live in Thane and go to the shop in Mulund West for work. I had taken this cycle on loan during the lockdown as I couldn't take the local train. So far, I have paid four instalments, and more are pending. Whenever I go to the police station, no one listens to me. They are not taking any initiative in lodging the complaint or finding my cycle."
Police Inspector Ravidutt Sawant of Mulund police station said, "I don't have any information about this incident and the case. Please send the complainant to me and I will help him."
