In the wake of Anant Chaturdashi, also known as Ganesh Visarjan, Mumbai Police held an all-out operation on Friday night. It lasted till the wee hours of Saturday. The aim was to weed out criminals.
In the massive operation, cops managed to arrest 57 wanted and absconding accused, 55 accused were issued non-bailable warrants and 31 others had been carrying illegal arms. Further, cops have arrested 118 persons for purchasing or selling narcotics. Combing operation was carried out at 222 places across the city.
To fish out criminals from the city, Mumbai Police conducts all-out operations at regular intervals. On Friday night, a similar operation was held in the wake of Ganesh immersion. The operation began at 11 pm on Friday and concluded on Saturday at 2 am. All the five additional commissioners, 13 DCPs, 41 ACPs and officers from all police stations were present.

Apart from 45,000 policemen attached to Mumbai Police, 100 officers and 1,500 men from Local Armed Police and various branches, three companies of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), one company of the Central Reserve Police Force, 500 home guards and 275 constables from outside units will be deployed today. Patrolling will be done at all sensitive spots. Heavy bandobast is expected at immersion points as well.
