The Chandiwal Commission rejected dismissed cop Sachin Waze’s affidavit with new claims
Dismissed police officer Sachin Waze, accused in the extortion racket case involving former state home minister Anil Deshmukh, changed his statement before the Chandiwal Commission on Wednesday. Earlier, the dismissed assistant police inspector (API) had claimed that neither Deshmukh nor his close associates ever asked him to collect money, but now he has alleged their direct involvement.
Submitting an additional affidavit, Waze also claimed that Deshmukh subjected him to severe mental torture and harassment, and that he continued doing so even after his resignation. Waze said he suffers from Stockholm syndrome, and that is the reason he initially gave statements in favour of the former home minister.
The Commission, however, rejected his affidavit.
Waze had previously denied being in any situation where he was asked to make payments to Deshmukh, but on Wednesday, he claimed to have been in such a situation. He also changed his statement on involvement of the former home minister's personal staff. On Wednesday, he said, "Yes, people associated with Mr Anil Deshmukh or on his behalf did demand money from me, which I was instructed to collect on behalf of Mr Anil Deshmukh and/or his associates."
"I am typically a victim and affected by Stockholm syndrome, at the hands of Mr Anil Deshmukh who even today holds tremendous power and clout over me, my life, my future and circumstances surrounding me. I say that the show-cause notice of increment stoppage issued to the escort party of Navi Mumbai police is one such example of victimisation."

Waze also claimed that he was denied all medical facilities inside Taloja jail. "I say that from the time I came to be lodged at Taloja Central Prison, Navi Mumbai, basic facilities such as medical treatment and food as per my medical condition, came to be denied," the affidavit read.
He also claimed that he was being tortured and harassed in Crime Branch's custody. "I was under tremendous pressure and thus, I conceded to the entire 15 days of police custody. During the police custody, I was mentally harassed and victimised so as to affect my psyche and my state of mind," he added.
What is Stockholm syndrome
Stockholm syndrome is a psychological response, in which a victim of an abuse empathises or bonds with the abuser. This condition has been widely linked to kidnapping cases.
