The principal bench of Bombay High Court will be shifting to virtual mode from January 4 onwards till further orders. The decision was taken, keeping in mind the rising number of Covid-19 cases in Mumbai.

According to Bar and Bench, the meeting was convened by the administrative committee of judges of the High Court with all High Court Bar Associations. The meeting was also attended by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) chief Iqbal Singh Chahal.

During the meeting, Chahal said that Mumbai's Covid-19 cases over the last 48 hours have risen exponentially. As a result of this, the administrative committee took the decision to hear pleas in virtual mode. Till January 8, all filings of pleadings and applications in the registry were permitted in physical format.

Earlier, the Bombay HC had decided to conduct hearings in 'hybrid' mode from January 4. Meanwhile, Mumbai reported 8,082 coronavirus cases and 40 Omicron infections on January 3.
