Mohal Delkar, an Independent MP from Dadra and Nagar Haveli, was found dead in a city hotel
The Mumbai police are yet to register a case of abetment in the death of Member of Parliament Mohan Delkar who left behind a 15-page note alleging harassment at the hands of senior bureaucrats having a nexus with political heavyweights in the national capital.
It is believed the 58-year-old politician from Dadra and Nagar Haveli wrote the purported suicide note in room number 512 of Sea Green hotel at Marine Drive where he was found hanging from a ceiling fan on Monday. His driver and bodyguard were in another room of the same hotel at the time.
A senior IPS officer said they have sent the letter, written on the letterhead of the Independent MP, to check its authenticity. "The initial post mortem-report reveals that he died by suicide but its detailed report is awaited. We are taking the help of handwriting experts to check it scientifically if it's written by Delkar," said the senior.
"We handed over Delkar's body to his relatives today. His family members have told us to wait till the funeral is conducted. We are yet to record their statement," the officer added.

Police sources told mid-day that Delkar, in the suicide note, said he was being harassed by senior bureaucrats. "He mentioned the apathy of the government towards tribals and teachers whose conditions deteriorated during lockdown," said a source.
Collector of Dadra and Nagar Haveli Sandeep Kumar Singh told mid-day that he had been cooperating with Delkar. "Even today, we made proper arrangements to conduct his last rites in DNH," said Singh. Asked if he has been contacted by the Mumbai police over the case, Singh said, "I have not received any call from police to investigate."
