Design plans for 40-seater dining car of Mumbai-Pune Deccan Queen train approved

The designs for the upgrading of the dining car of the Mumbai-Pune Deccan Queen train have been approved. The dining car will be a 40-seater with 10 dining tables. It will now be manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai.

"The upgrades were approved in February 2021 and sent to ICF Chennai. The manufacturing of the dining car will be taken up as per their schedule," a senior official said.

A new colour shade of "Restrained Imperium" has been finalized for the train, following design approval by Ahmedabad-based National Institute of Design (NID). Mid-Day was first to report about the new colour shade and related developments in the design of the iconic train.

"As per the finalised designs, the new dining car will be a 40-seater with ten dining tables and four chairs around each of it panoramic windows. The coach will have a well-equipped kitchen with provisions for pantry storage, electric cooking range, deep freezers, a refrigerator, service table, multiple sinks and service counters for the manager. This will be the first LHB-class dining car of Indian Railways," said Central Railway chief public relations officer Shivaji Sutar.

The changes are happening because the train is now getting an upgrade German-design Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches. LHB coaches have better suspension system giving travelling comfort. They have a designed speed of 160 km/h that could go up to 200 km/h.
