Heavy rain, waterlogging slows public transport

Due to overnight rainfall, waterlogging was reported in some parts of the city. In the morning around 8.30 am Andheri subway had to be shut down. It was opened again a few hours after the water had receded.

While Central and Western Railway services were running a bit late, several BEST bus routes were diverted temporarily due to waterlogging in various parts of the city and suburbs. Though railway authorities claimed that suburban trains were running as per normal, commuters complained that there was a delay of around 15 minutes. Rail commuters also complained of missing roofs at many stations on both CR and WR. Commuters in south Mumbai complained of waterlogging at CSMT with the entire footpath and walkway flooded. Road traffic along both the highways was also slowed down.

Rain after dry spell

After a hiatus of five days, rain lashed the city on Friday, leading to waterlogging in a few areas and traffic snarls. While there is no warning for Mumbai and the adjoining areas for Saturday and Sunday, IMD Mumbai has predicted the possibility of heavy rainfall in South Konkan and North Konkan. Some meteorologists have said moderate to heavy rain in isolated places will continue in the city.

According to IMD, Maharashtra will receive good rainfall, the required amount in the month of July. There is no warning for fishermen currently because the Arabian Sea continues to have normal, seasonal weather. The rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours ending on Friday 8.30 am at Santacruz observatory was 53 mm and Colaba was 45 mm.
