The Indian Army Day is celebrated on January 15 every day. The day is marked in recognition of Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa's, the then Lieutenant General- taking over the position as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Francis Roy Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on 15 January 1949.
This year, India will be observing its 75th anniversary of Indian Army Day on January 15 in remembrance of the proud day when the Indian Army got its first Indian Commander in chief.

The Army Day parade is the highlight of the day to mark the Indian Army Day.The day is marked at many army command headquarters to honour the day when K. M. Cariappa became the first chief Commander of India after the country got freedom.
The Indian Army Day has a national importance as the soldiers of the army who died while protecting the country are honoured on this day. It recognizes the Indian Army's courage and dedication towards safeguarding the country and its citizens.
