Chetan Kumar Singh, the RPF constable who shot dead four people on a train, has been throwing tantrums, Borivli GRP said on Thursday. He even tore up an official register. However, the cops said, they are not impressed by his act, which seems to be an attempt to prove he is mentally ill.
The accused is very sharp. We are not buying the claim that he is mentally unfit. But, if the family submits documents to support the claims, we will definitely investigate that. If required, we will also conduct narco-analysis on him," said a source in the Borivli Government Railway Police (GRP).
An officer said, "Whenever Singh's statement is being recorded, he asks to read it. But, if he finds some mistake, he makes the officer write the entire statement again. He refuses to sign until the statement is to his liking."
"Once, when a Railway Protection Force (RPF) officer came to take Singh's signature on their duty register, he tore it," said another officer. GRP cops said they are monitoring Singh 24x7. GRP sources said Singh had used 12 rounds of bullets and had eight remaining. Had the train not halted, he might have killed more people, they added.
The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad is conducting a parallel probe into the shooting on Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express, sources confirmed. A team of ATS officers has visited the Borivli GRP police station to examine all the testimony, statements and evidence collected byGRP personnel. So far, no terror link has been found, said the sources in the ATS.
