The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Maharashtra's Thane has awarded a compensation of Rs 8.10 lakh to a boy who was injured in an accident in 2017.
In an order issued on Friday, MACT member H M Bhosale directed Balchandra Mhatre, the owner of a the offending car, and the ICICI Lombard Insurance Co. Ltd to pay the compensation jointly and severally along with interest at 8 per cent p.a. from the date of filing of the claim petition.
Appearing for the petitioner, advocate S M Pawar said that on December 27, 2017, the boy Ganesh Vijay Kadam, who was five years old at the time, was hit by a speeding car on Kokanipada-Tikujini Wada Road.
The boy sustained severe injuries and had to undergo a surgery. The boy's parents had spent more than Rs 5 lakh in medical expenses, he said.

The owner of the vehicle did not appear and the matter was decided ex-parte against him, while the insurance company was represented by advocate K V Poojari who contested the claim.
The total compensation of Rs 8.10 lakh, included Rs 3 lakh towards compensation on account of permanent disability, Rs 2.80 lakh towards hospital expenses, Rs 1 lakh towards medical expenses, Rs 50,000 each towards loss of enjoyment of life and pain and suffering, Rs 20,000 towards conveyance and Rs 10,000 towards special diet.
