Maharashtra accident: A private luxury bus coming to Mumbai from Goa veered off the road and rolled down to the bank of a river in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district, the officials said on Thursday, reported the PTI.

They said that the accident took place after the driver of the bus reportedly misjudged a bridge on Thursday, as per the PTI.

There were no injuries, a police official said.

According to the PTI, the bus was carrying 40 passengers when the incident took place in the Sahuwadi area in the morning, he said.

Bus driver Hrishikesh Jagdish Bhat (23) lost control of the vehicle and it went off the road and rolled down to the bank of a river, he said, the PTI reported.

No one was injured in the accident, the official said, adding that traffic on the road was briefly affected.

In an another incident, two persons were killed when a truck hit a private bus on the Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra's Buldhana district on Thursday, a police official said, as per the PTI.

The accident took place at around 4 am in Mehkar area of Buldhana, located about 350 km from Nagpur, when the bus driver had stopped the vehicle in a lane for checking its tyres, he said.

The bus was on way to Nagpur from Mumbai.

The truck hit the bus from its rear ride, killing its driver and a passenger, the official said.

The Samruddhi Mahamarg, named Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, is a 701-km-long expressway connecting Mumbai and Nagpur.

It traverses 10 districts including Nagpur, Washim, Wardha, Ahmednagar, Buldhana, Aurangabad, Amravati, Jalna, Nashik and Thane.

A number of accidents have been witnessed on the expressway since it became operational in December last year.

Meanwhile, after the recent accidents on the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway, the state government authority has decided to install rumble strips every 5 km on the operational stretch. Further, sculptures will be erected along the carriageway to keep motorists alert, an official said.

As many as 3,500 accidents have been reported on the Samruddhi Expressway since its launch in December 2022, as per the data provided by the official from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited (MSRDC).
