Maharashtra: Fire officials rescue three labourers after heap of soil and stones falls on them in Ambernath

As many as three labourers working at a site to lay gas pipelines were nearly buried after a mound of soil and stones fell on them at Ambernath of Maharashtra's Thane district on Wednesday, an official said. Fire officials saved the trio, reported the PTI.

According to Vijay Mote, Ambernath MIDC fire officer, the workers were clearing soil from a pit being dug by earthmovers to lay gas pipelines when the accident took place around 4 pm.

A heap of soil and stones fell on them, nearly burying them alive, the official said.

Fire officials rushed to the site and pulled the workers after clearing the debris.

The labourers have been admitted to the Ulhasnagar Central Hospital, he added.

Meanwhile, Three persons were killed and two others injured when their car jumped a road divider and collided with a truck on Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway in Maharashtra's Palghar district on Wednesday morning, police said, according to the PTI.

The car with five occupants was heading from Mumbai towards Ahmedabad in Gujarat when the accident took place near Sativali village at around 6.30 am, said senior police inspector Jairam Ranavare from Valiv police station.

The car jumped the road divider, went into a lane on the other side and collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction, he said.

Three car occupants died on the spot while two others were injured, the official said, adding the vehicle was completely damaged.

After being alerted, local police and firemen rushed to the spot.

The two injured persons were admitted to a hospital for treatment. The bodies were sent to a government hospital for post-mortem, the police said.

In an another incident, seven members of a family had a narrow escape when a car in which they were travelling caught fire in Maharashtra's Thane district, civic officials said on Monday, according to the PTI.

The car was completely charred following the incident which took place at around 10 pm on Mumbra bypass when the family members were on way towards

Thane city, local civic body's disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said.

The car suddenly caught fire following which its occupants - two women, as many men and three children- immediately got out of the vehicle, he said.

Local firemen and disaster management cell team members rushed to the spot after being alerted and put out the blaze in about half-an- hour, but the car was completely charred, the official said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, he added.
