Maharashtra government will act against anyone who has committed mistake: Minister Aslam Shaikh

Action will be taken against the one who has committed a mistake and the Maharashtra government will not back anybody in such a case, a state minister said here on Wednesday.

Textile Minister Aslam Shaikh made the comment while interacting with media persons against the backdrop of the arrest of city police officer Sachin Waze by the NIA over its probe into the recovery of an explosives-laden SUV near industrialist Mukesh Ambani''s house last month.

Asked about some media reports speculating about the transfer of Mumbai's Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh over the Waze episode, Shaikh said it is not right to talk about such a step if anyone (else) has committed a mistake.

"Action will be taken if any official has committed a mistake. It is not right to talk about transferring the DGP, CP or joint CP if anyone (else) makes a mistake.

"Action will be taken against the one who has committed a mistake. The government will not back anyone," the Congress leader said, when asked about the Waze episode and the speculation about Singh's transfer.

Waze is at the focus of a probe by the National Investigating Agency (NIA) into a case related to the recovery of the SUV with explosives near Ambani's house in south Mumbai on February 25. Waze, who was attached to the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of city police's crime branch till recently, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on March 13.
