Union Minister and BJP candidate Narayan Rane declared on Tuesday that "the lotus has finally bloomed in Konkan". The MP had made the statement earlier when he appeared to win the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg Lok Sabha constituency in Maharashtra. The lotus is the BJP's electoral symbol.
The BJP has never won a seat in the Konkan region. Rane faced off against Vinayak Raut, a Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate.
"Lotus has finally bloomed in Konkan," Rane announced after attending a ceremony.
Rane has received 4, 48, 514 votes, while Raut has 4, 00, 656. Rane won the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg seat by a margin of 47, 858 votes.

The Union Minister attributed his triumph to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and promised to strive for the development of Ratnagiri.
The Union Minister credited his success to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and pledged to work for the development of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts.
Heena Gavit, a two-time BJP MP, was defeated by Congress candidate Gowaal Padavi by more than 1.5 lakh votes in Maharashtra's Nandurbar Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday. Padavi, an advocate, received 7,45,998 votes to Gavit's 5,86,878.
Ananda Koli, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate, received 10,644 votes. Meanwhile, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) contender Hemant Koli received 4081 votes.
As many as 14,123 votes selected NOTA (none of the above).
Nandurbar, a former Congress stronghold, has a scheduled tribe-reserved constituency.
Meanwhile, Nitin Gadkari, who won from Nagpur, said, "I won because of people's love and faith, and I will remain committed to the overall development of Nagpur."
