Maharashtra: Three held with fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 2 lakh in Pune

The regional unit of Directorate Revenue of Intelligence (DRI) Pune arrested three people with smuggled Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) on Friday. The investigation has revealed it was smuggled from Bangladesh.

According to DRI, on the basis of specific information developed by DRI, officers of Pune Regional Unit booked a case of seizure of smuggled Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN).

"This action was taken in co-ordination and assistance of officers of Pune Customs on October 12. The team of DRI officers acted swiftly and apprehended one person riding a motorcycle approaching from Khadki bazaar Lane and trying to cross Elphinstone Road," the statement from DRI said.

As per DRI, a total of 400 smuggled counterfeit Indian currency notes of Rs. 500 denomination each, having a face value of Rs. 2 lakhs, were recovered from him and seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.

After the revelation by first accused, two more persons involved in the supply of this smuggled FICN have been nabbed by the officers of DRI.

"Investigation has revealed that these FICNs have been smuggled into India from Bangladesh," DRI statement reads further

The officials have not revealed the name of the accused as they suspect larger conspiracy were Indian currencies printed in Bangladesh and then smuggled to India.

Three accused as mentioned above, dealing in circulation of such counterfeit currency notes, were arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

Further investigation in this matter is underway.
