In the absence of exams, CBSE will declare the results after taking into account the marks of Std X, XI and internal assessments of Std XII
The Supreme Court may have put an end to the uncertainties surrounding the CBSE's evaluation formula for its Std XII students, but the 30:30:40 methodology has received mixed reactions with many questioning the consideration given for Class XI marks.

As per the formula declared by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for Std XII board results, sans exam, weightage is given to marks obtained in Std X and XI along with score of internal assessments of Std XII. The central board has about 15 lakh Std XII students.
"In given circumstances, there could not have been an alternative without any difference of opinion. In fact, it is a good thing that Std X marks are considered for this result as that is the only standardised marks obtained by students showing their ability and aptitude and it can ensure uniformity," shared Avnita Bir, principal of the R N Podar school.

Bir, however, expressed concerns over considering Std XI marks which is a year of transition for most students. "They are just getting introduced to new specified subjects in Std XI. Plus, it is also a gap year between two board exams so many have looked at it casually. In case of Std XII internal marks too, students focused on final examinations tend to miss exams or study for board papers while preparing for entrance tests. This is a time for all to change their approach towards assessment as well as for students towards studies," added Bir.
A teacher from a Malad school, requesting anonymity, said, "Students are bound to react strongly to this as they were not prepared for such a formula-based evaluation wherein academic years where they might have had not done well are going to be considered. This comes as a shocker for students as they did not know until a month ago that their Std X and XI marks will play such an important role in their Std XII board results which are going to determine their future course of higher education."
Amid varied reactions to the marking formula, many are relieved that there is clarity on how to go ahead after being stuck in uncertainty for a long time. Anjali Bowen, principal of Ryan International School, CBSE, Kandivali, said, "This was a challenge for the board and while any decision would have its positives and negatives, the important thing is that there is clarity on the way forward."
